We arrived in New York City on an Acela two days ago, ten minutes after finding out we had gotten a miracle: our little writing book had hit the New York Times bestseller list, without having gotten a single review.
I went to visit my husband in rehab 26 years+ ago, not knowing what would happen or how I would feel. The taxi driver who dropped me at the rehab gave me change (paid in cash in those days) and also handed me his 25 year chip and said, “give him a chance.” 12/7/26 - god willing will be 26 years of sobriety for him, and 26 years of Alanon and gratitude for me. Have a great trip.
Yes to Minneapolis! and to the frogs in Portland, and everyone who knows that we are best when we help each other. To the bartender... one day at a time, brother.🙏🏼
Your writing is my favorite, it's like a cheery, comfortaing, and some times just sassy enough balm to my soul. Every time you call my city a North Star the tears well. Dear friends please come visit us this summer. Minneapolis is the most glorious city in the summer and our restaurants and stores in S Minneapolis need the love. I promise you we're all painfully Minnesota nice and love talking to strangers :) Happy Marching this Saturday all!
Woohoo!! Congratulations, my friend. You and Neal make such an incredible team. I’m deep in my own studies right now—working toward a degree to teach writing—and Bird by Bird was one of my required readings. I’ll be purchasing Good Writing in the next few days.
I’m not at all surprised it made the New York Times best-seller list. Maybe one day I’ll have the honor of making it required reading in my own classroom.
Love to you both—and hit the ground marching tomorrow at the No Kings rally. You make the world proud with your dedication to humanity.
I’m reading a book titled, “The Sentence, “ by Louise Erdrich, that is giving me an even closer understanding of why/ how Minneapolis is our North Star. And, I have my copy of “Good Writing,” waiting on my ottoman.
Annie, I sure wish I could join you and Neal in Burlington for NO KINGS DAY.
Steve and I are on our way home from a 2 week vacation in the sunshine state.
We marched and peacefully protested at the last NO KINGS DAY on the Capitol steps in Hartford, CT. What an affirming, empowering and exciting day to make our voices heard!

What a beautiful story about that taxi driver passing on the chip with such grace.
Thanks for not leaving before the miracle of 26 years! xo

That one day at a time reminder never gets old and this put a real smile on my face.

Painfully Minnesota nice is such a perfect phrase and now I want to visit in the summer.
7 years yesterday. One miracle after another. Going to a writer's conference in ATL tomorrow to pitch to live agents. Who'd a thunk it? ODAT.
Oh yeah, see you tomorrow wherever you are! No Kings!
Seven years and pitching your book to live agents, what a moment to celebrate.
Lots of protests in ATL and surrounding towns. Join us!
Thank you, thank you for this reminder of grace and hope, and Hallelujah anyway!
Grace and hope, two things this piece delivers every single time.
Love, love, love it all! Celebrating all good things with gusto and deep reverence. Thank you for this sharing.
Celebrating with gusto and deep reverence is honestly the only way to do it.

I love your intersection of great writers! “Good Writing” is about “The Sentence.” 😂
