I absolutely ADORE you, Anne Lamott. I'm right behind you.. 72 next month and sticking to hope... for the world and for good cake. Happy birthday to you, wise one.
Bonne anniversaire, Anne. This Canadian loves your writing, believes in what you are doing and quotes Bird by Bird every time she needs to re-centre. For your birthday, I’m going to go and buy your new book. And I’ll keep writing Postcards from Canada. You Americans fighting evil are not alone.
I love this post - a joy to read and yes - the world is a challenge these days - so very hard to stay sane - and your writing so often helps me remember.
Happy Birthday! I am 73 and got married late in life to a man who is 4 1/2 months older than me. My sobriety birthday is May 9, 1986, and I just received the copies of my first book of poetry. I appreciate your quips about aging!
Love this! And it only gets better. I’m 80+ and it’s wonderful finally getting (some of the time, maybe) that we are all perfectly imperfect and there’s no use wasting energy trying to hide it. I’m so happy for you, Anne LaMott. What a gift you have with words. Even though reality lies just beyond those words, they are beautiful and feed many souls.
I woke up to this post, and I love it. I also will be 72 and my heart and brain cannot register that number. You save my life with every thoughtful, honest post dear Anne. Today, in your honor, no floss, dirty face, spreading grace and all good…Happy Birthday! 💛
Happy 27 (again), Anne! Everybody knows that California hippies never age past 27!!! 😉 Thank you for this inspiring post on a day when I was feeling particularly heavy from news and shit. But knowing it’s your birthday and receiving your lovely post today makes things a bit brighter! Happy birthday, young lady!
Anne Lamont… you make me laugh the way I do in a meeting (you know what I’m talking about). And I’m currently two years young than my wife for another 15 days… I asked my granddaughter, whose three, if I could give her a hug and a kiss as we left the library. She simply replied, “no thank you” and walked away. I’m trying to be more like a three year old: honestly kind. So my way of dealing with all of this mess in our country is to remember her saying “no thank you.” 🙏

I'll be 89 in a couple of weeks and .. . I forgot what I was going to tell you. Oh, yeah. Happy Birthday!

Thank you Kristin for your support against this evil president and his cronies.
Happy Birthday! 🌸🎉❤️ I’d be more than happy to join you in making Stephen Miller’s life miserable!

77 here, and keeping my pledge to every day do at least one thing in support of democracy. 🥳👍
Hi Barb, I’m only 66 and I forgot my pledge to help save democracy every dang day. Thank you for reminding me!
Some days I stretch to “claim” an action, but as a “last resort” I use my extensive reading in preparation for writing my Substack. 😄
Educating yourself is action!

Yes Lisa 🙌🏼 Not impressive over here. Let’s be gloriously imperfect

Gosh I am so freaking grateful you were born. 💖💖💖

Thank you. Happy Birthday! I donated to Oxfam and hope you have a glorious day doing only what you want.

Happy 57th birthday!!!
My (real) 65th was Saturday, but I’m thinking more like 56.
Either way, here we are treading water sometimes floating but still kicking.
Today I flapped my upper arms just to see how far they wiggle! Why? I don’t know
Big love for being born, for being Here, and for the many wise sentences in “Good Writing” that make my novel revisions sing! Hallelujah.
Happy birthday and your words saved me this morning
